What Is Arc Flash Protective Clothing?
Arc flash protective clothing is flame-resistant workwear that has been arc-tested to ASTM F1959 or IEC 61482 and carries a measured arc rating in cal/cm² (ATPV or EBT). It protects electrical workers from the thermal energy of an arc flash and is selected by matching the garment's rating to the incident energy of the task — commonly 8 cal/cm² for NFPA 70E Category 2 daily wear and 40 cal/cm² suits for Category 4 switching work.

Expert note: the garment is only part of the system — hoods, balaclavas, gloves and face protection carry their own ratings, and the lowest-rated layer between the arc and the skin sets the protection. We quote complete kitted systems for exactly this reason.

How to Verify an Arc Rating Before Anyone Wears It
"40 cal" printed on a label costs nothing; 40 cal of tested protection costs engineering. Arc-rating fraud is the most dangerous fake in PPE because failure is measured in burn units. Run this five-step check on us — and on every competitor's quote you're comparing to ours.
Why the cheap quote is usually a different fabric
The classic switch: quote against a branded inherent fabric, ship a lookalike treated fabric with no arc test. Our defense is paperwork you can check — the fabric name and weight on the ASTM/IEC report, the garment label, and the mill certificate must be one unbroken chain, and we hand you all three links before deposit.
Why anyone promising 40 cal suits in 3 weeks is guessing
Certified FR fabric is made to order, not pulled off a shelf. Honest timelines: 10–15 days sampling, 35–45 days bulk. We hold safety stock on core CAT 2 fabrics to shorten repeat programs — and we'll tell you at quotation, not week six, if your date can't be met.

ATPV vs EBT — what's the difference?
Both are arc ratings in cal/cm² from ASTM F1959. ATPV is the energy with a 50% probability of preventing a second-degree burn; EBT is the energy with a 50% probability of the fabric breaking open. A garment is labeled with whichever value occurs first — and both are equally valid for compliance.
Is FR clothing the same as arc-rated clothing?
No. All arc-rated clothing is flame resistant, but not all FR clothing is arc-rated. Only garments tested to ASTM F1959 or IEC 61482 carry a cal/cm² rating and satisfy NFPA 70E arc flash requirements — "FR" alone on a label is not enough for electrical work.
Do layered garments add their ratings together?
Not arithmetically. Layering usually yields a higher system rating than the sum thanks to insulating air gaps — but the value must come from testing that exact combination. Use published layering-system data (we provide ours) rather than adding numbers on labels.
How long does arc-rated clothing last?
Inherent aramid garments protect for their wearable life; FR-treated cottons protect for the certified wash count on the label (commonly 50–100 industrial washes) if laundered correctly — no chlorine bleach, no fabric softener, repairs only with arc-rated materials. Retire any garment with holes, thinning or contamination.
What does a 40 cal arc flash suit include?
A typical CAT 4 kit: multilayer arc-rated jacket or coat, bib overalls, an arc hood rated with the suit, and a storage bag — often with a face-shield/hard-hat system and an inspection log. Reveluz supplies kitted, private-labeled sets from 100 kits.
Can arc-rated clothing be hi-vis too?
